Komodo National Park

The existence of Komodo National Park which is nominated as new 7 wonder at a popular voting competition nowadays is quite attracting. Controversies following the competition doesn’t at all affect to the intensive efforts to conserve the park which was stated by the UNESCO as one of the world’s inheritance site.
Komodo national park located between West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara Provinces which consist of 3 big islands : Komodo island, Rinca Island and Padar Island and also several small islands with land that is about 603 km2 wide. Administratively this region is at Komodo Subdistrict, Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The initial objective of establishing this park was to conserve the Komodo, a rare and unique giant lizard species.
Komodo, in scientific term is named as Varanus Komodoensis, the biggest lizard species that comes from Komodo Island, Indonesia. The average lenght of their bodies are 2-3 metres. Komodo was founded at 1910. The big body size and scarry reputation gives the Komodos popularity at the zoo. These giant lizards are now protected by the law of Indonesia’s government and a national park was built to save them from extinction.
